Service, symposium to honor
scientist Robert Macnab

A memorial service and an international symposium will honor the life and work of Robert M. Macnab, professor and former chair of molecular biophysics and biochemistry (MB&B), who died on Sept. 7 at age 63.

A memorial service celebrating Macnab's life will be held 5-6 pm on Friday, April 30, in Battell Chapel, corner of College and Elm streets. A reception will follow at the Calhoun College master's house, 434 College St. Memorial donations in the Yale researcher's honor may be sent to The Robert Macnab Memorial Fund, c/o Melody Lane, MB&B Department, Yale University, P.O. Box 208114, New Haven, CT 06520-8114.

On Saturday, May 1, a memorial symposium in Macnab's honor will be held 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in Davies Auditorium, 15 Prospect St.

The symposium, titled "Bacterial Motility and Chemotaxis," is free and open to the public (although registration is requested by Monday, April 26).

Speakers from around the world will present work in the fields of bacterial motility and chemotaxis, which was the focus of Macnab's research at Yale for 30 years. The symposium is being sponsored by MB&B, the Robert Macnab Memorial Fund and the Japan Science and Technology Agency through its International Cooperative Research Project.
