Wendy Hall, coordinator of Yale's Administrative Services Division, is one of many University staff members who volunteer their time with a United Way partner agency or with other affiliated health and human service organizations.
She serves on the board of directors of Life Haven, a temporary shelter for homeless pregnant women and women with children. It is located on Ferry Street in the Fair Haven section of New Haven.
"Life Haven is so much more than a shelter," says Hall of the United Way partner agency. "It's truly a life enhancing program for families, designed not only to provide shelter but to offer services such as prevention planning, assistance with housing searches, computer training, parenting workshops, and vocational and job retention training -- all of which help develop life skills that enable our clients to live independently.
"The staff is committed to creating an environment in which women and their children can feel at home. As a member of the board of directors for Life Haven, I hope that my involvement helps to fulfill that mission."
Life Haven is one of many agencies in New Haven and its surrounding towns which rely on contributions from the Yale-United Way Campaign. For a list of other agencies supported through this fundraising drive, see the United Way website at www.uwgnh.org/. For more information on Life Haven, visit www.lifehaven.org/.
