YB&C launches new online Calendar
With this issue, the Yale Bulletin & Calendar (YB&C) is launching an interactive online Calendar of Events that offers users more options when searching for information about campus activities.
The Yale Calendar of Events website -- at http://events.yale.edu/opa -- offers three ways to search: by date, by category or by keyword.
By clicking on a particular date on the calendar grid, users will get a chronological list of events being held on campus that day. By clicking on one of the categories (such as "Talks") at the bottom of the screen, they will get a list of events in that category reaching out for a month, listed chronologically by date and time. By typing a word or words into the Keyword Search field at the top right-hand side of the page, users will get a list of events matching that entry up to a year in the future, again listed chronologically by date and time.
The list of entries generated by these searches include information about the type, title, date, time and location of events. Users can then click on the individual entry for more information.
Because this new Calendar reaches out three years into the future, it is also hoped that it will become a useful tool for individuals planning events on campus by letting them see what other types of activities are happening on the dates they might be considering.
To improve the usefulness of the new website as a planning tool, the YB&C requests that departments send information about their events for posting on the Calendar of Events as soon as they have even tentative dates for their activities. Additional information or any changes in plans can be posted at a later date, as the Calendar will be updated frequently.
Forms for submitting listings to the Calendar of Events can be downloaded on the YB&C website (www.yale.edu/opa/yb&c) and submitted by fax to (203) 432-1323; by Campus Mail to 265 Church St., Suite 901; or by U.S. Mail to the Yale Bulletin & Calendar, P.O. Box 208279, New Haven, CT 06520-8279.
This version of the Calendar of Events represents the first phase in an ongoing project. Future improvements are expected to include additional ways to refine searches and the ability to submit information online. Readers' comments and suggestions are welcome.
The Calendar of Events was created through the efforts of the Office of the Secretary working with the Enterprise Web Development team at Information Technology Services.
