A welcome 'Jeopardy!'

Yale played host to "Jeopardy!" last week when the long-running television game show came to town to tape its annual College Championship.

The Lanman Center at the Payne Whitney Gymnasium was transformed into the "Jeopardy!" set, with a replica of Old Campus serving as the backdrop. Fifteen students -- including Yale junior Robbie Schrum -- were chosen from over 18,000 applicants to compete in the tournament.

The taping of the tournament was truly a community affair. Six thousand tickets were distributed on campus and within the community. Over 1,600 student tickets were given away by "Jeopardy!" staff at the Sept. 23 contestant search and by the Yale College Council. Community members received tickets via a lottery, which drew over 24,000 requests.

Ten shows were taped altogether; they will air Nov. 10-21 (locally on WTNH-Channel 8).
