Sessions to explore prospects, potential of biotechnology
Scientists, business leaders and scholars will discuss emerging issues in biotechnology at the third annual Yale-New Haven Biotechnology Reception on Friday, Oct. 24.
The event, organized by the Yale Biotechnology Student Interest Group, will be held 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at the New Haven Lawn Club, 193 Whitney Ave.
The morning session on "Money, Molecules and Implications" will include presentations on "Winning Strategies for Life Science Investing," "From the Bench to the Boardroom: Starting a Biotech Company," "Developing the Biotech Business" and "Searching for Jobs in Biotech and Pharma." Speakers will include representatives from Atlas Venture, Cohn & Wolfe, Molecular Staging, Protometrix, PTC Therapeutics, Rib-X Pharmaceuticals, SG Cowen, Talent Capital Group, the Yale School of Management and the Office of Cooperative Research.
The afternoon session is titled "Stem Cells, Cloning and Human Health." Speakers will discuss the science, business and ethics of commercializing these new technologies. Speakers will include representatives from Columbia University, Genzyme Biosurgery, Geron, Infinity Pharmaceuticals, ViaCell and Yale.
The event is sponsored by Wiggin & Dana and Cohn & Wolfe, with support from Evelexa BioResources, HireBio, Science Careers and Weill Cornell Medical College and Graduate School of Medical Sciences.
