Miriam DiMaio, senior genetic counselor at the School of Medicine, will discuss David Bainbridge's book "The X in Sex: How the X Chromosome Controls Our Lives" at a "Books Sandwiched In" discussion on Thursday, Oct. 23. Sponsored by the New Haven Free Public Library, the talk will take place noon-1 p.m. in the community program room at the library; the lower level entrance is on Temple St.
Susan Hockfield, University provost, was a recipient of the Meliora Citation for Career Achievement at the University of Rochester on Oct. 11. Hockfield received her B.A. from the university in 1973. First presented in 2002, the award recognizes "exemplary achievement and a commitment [by recipients ] to advance their chosen fields."
Jane Taylor, associate professor of psychiatry, will share part of a $70,000 grant from the Society for Women's Health Research that will fund an interdisciplinary and collaborative research project to examine the role sex chromosomes play in drug addiction. Founded in 1990, the society is the nation's only not-for-profit organization whose sole mission is to improve the health of women through research.
