Memorial service for Osea Noss

A memorial service with music honoring Osea Noss will take place on Sunday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. in Morse Recital Hall in Sprague Hall, 470 College St.

Mrs. Noss, who died on Nov. 7, was the widow of Luther Noss, who served as master of Silliman College, professor of organ and dean of the School of Music.

Born May 1, 1905 in San Giacomo, Province of Montova, Lombardy, Italy, Osea Noss came to the United States with her family in 1913, settling in Torrington, Connecticut. Following high school she was secretary and companion to Zoe Akins, playwright and poet, on a lecture tour of the United States, visiting 39 states. She graduated from Cornell University, and after her marriage to Luther Noss came to New Haven, where she worked in the editorial department of the Yale University Press and later at the Yale Law School as editor of the Yale Law Report. She was a volunteer for Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic for 44 years and recipient of the national Volunteer of the Year Award in 2002.

For more information about the memorial service for Osea Noss, contact the School of Music Concert Office at (203) 432-4158.
