Department chair named

President Richard C. Levin has announced the appointment of Peter Swenson, professor of political science, as chair of the Department of Political Science. Swenson's term will be for three years, effective July 1.


Book signing

Michael Sletcher, assistant editor of the Papers of Benjamin Franklin, will sign copies of his book "New Haven: From Puritanism to the Age of Terrorism," in the Community Program Room of the New Haven Public Library from noon until 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 3. Berman performs in China

Boris Berman, adjunct professor of piano at the School of Music, was given the title of Honorary Professor by the Shanghai Conservatory of Music during a recent visit. He performed and gave masterclasses at the First International Piano Festival in Shanghai.


Summer Cabaret announces new artistic leadership

Summer Cabaret at Yale has announced that Kristina Mendicino, an M.F.A. candidate in dramaturgy and dramatic criticism, and Tea Alagic, an M.F.A. candidate in directing, will constitute the artistic leadership for this year's season of productions.

Summer Cabaret's eight-week season is tentatively scheduled for June 15-Aug. 6. Four productions will be announced shortly. Performances will take place at
8 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday of the first week of each production's run, and Tuesday through Saturday of the second week of each production's run. The cabaret is located at 217 Park St.

Radio program highlighted international Yale students

Three international students currently studying at Yale were featured on a new Voice of America (VOA) radio program.

The program, "America's Global College Forum," examined the college experience of international students studying in the United States. The third and final Yale segment aired on Tuesday, Feb. 8. The program is also available for on-demand listening via the Internet at www.voanews.com/english/AmericanLife/index.cfm.

The students are Brian Patrick Dineen, Ruramisai Charumbira, and Cesar Moran Cahusac.

The Voice of America, which first went on the air in 1942, is a multimedia international broadcasting service funded by the U.S. government. VOA broadcasts more than 1,000 hours of news, information, educational and cultural programming every week to an estimated worldwide audience of more than 100 million people.
