Pam Stuper

Pam Stuper appointed head field hockey coach

Pam Stuper, an assistant field hockey coach at Yale for the past seven seasons, has been named the team's head coach.

Stuper replaces Ainslee Lamb, who recently was named the head coach at Boston College. Lamb coached Yale for the last four seasons after serving as an assistant for three.

"I am thrilled with the opportunity I have here at Yale to build on the foundation Ainslee has laid," says Stuper. "I hope to continue the great tradition of Yale field hockey."

"We are very fortunate to have someone with Pam's experience and ability to take over and maintain the positive direction of this program," says Athletic Director Tom Beckett. "Ainslee did a tremendous job for Yale, and we wish her the very best in her new assignment at Boston College."

A 1992 graduate of Old Dominion, Stuper was a key member of three national championship teams and was a two-time All-American. For the last three years, she played for the Tidewater Tempest in the United Airlines Field Hockey Summer League.

Prior to arriving in New Haven, she was an assistant coach at James Madison 1993-1995 and did a residency with the U.S. National team in Atlanta 1995-1996. As a player, she was an alternate for the 1996 U.S. Olympic Team. She earned a silver medal in the 1995 Pan American Games and a bronze medal in the 1994 World Cup. In 1997, she was a member of the U.S. National team that competed in the Champions Trophy in Berlin. Stuper concluded her national team career at the 1998 World Cup in Utrecht, Holland, where she helped the United States to an eighth-place finish.

Stuper is currently pursuing her master's degree in sports psychology at Southern Connecticut State University. She lives in Hamden with her husband John, head coach of the Yale baseball team.
