The painting "Meditation Series 1" by Wisnu Sasongko will be among the works on view in a new ISM show.

Paintings 'retell true story of
how we are to love each other'

An exhibition titled "Think on These Things: The Art of Wisnu Sasongko" will be on display March 7-April 27 at the Institute of Sacred Music (ISM), 409 Prospect St.

A native of Indonesia, Sasongko is a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Art, Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta. His acrylic and oil paintings have been exhibited in Germany, Canada, the United States and Indonesia, and have been published by the Asian Christian Art Association.

Raised in a Christian home, Sasongko committed his life to Christ in 1997, which, he says, transformed the "cultural and spiritual mandates" of his artistry and gave fresh purpose to his life.

"Now my paintings retell the true story of how we are to love each other," says Sasongko, who is currently the Paul T. Lauby Artist in Residence at the Overseas Ministries Study Center in New Haven.

There will be a reception in Sasongko's honor 4:30-6 p.m. with the Wesleyan Gamelan Ensemble on Thursday, March 31, at ISM. The reception and the exhibition are free and open to the public.

The exhibition, which is presented in partnership with the Overseas Ministries Study Center with support from the Divinity School, is open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays. Free parking is available. For further information, call (203) 432-5062 or visit the ISM website at www.yale.edu/ism.
