Comer to speak at fundraiser for child care center
Dr. James Comer, the Maurice Falk Professor of Child Psychiatry at the Child Study Center and the author of "Leave No Child Behind: Preparing Today's Youth for Tomorrow's World," will give the keynote address at the 10th anniversary celebration of the Elizabeth Celotto Child Care Center at Wilbur Cross High School on Wednesday, April 27.
The event will take place at the Woodwinds Restaurant, 29 Schoolground Rd. in Branford. Proceeds from the dinner will benefit a scholarship fund for teen parents pursuing a college education.
The Elizabeth Celotto Child Care Center is a program that provides childcare, parent education and support services for teen-age parents.
The Whiffenpoofs will perform in a benefit concert for Connecticut Voices of Children on Wednesday, May 4, 6-8 p.m. at The Carousel at Lighthouse Point in New Haven.
The suggested minimum donation is $100 (all but $35 of each contribution is tax-deductible). Complimentary food and drink will be served. For reservations or information, call (203) 498-4240.
Connecticut Voices for Children is a research-based policy and advocacy organization committed to promoting leadership, policy change and investment on behalf of all of Connecticut's children and youth. Founded in 1909, the Whiffenpoofs perform a cappella arrangements of jazz standards, classic ballads, traditional Yale songs and recent popular hits. The group has sung for such notables as Presidents Reagan, Bush and Clinton, Mother Theresa and the Dalai Lama, as well as at such events as the World Series and on "Saturday Night Live," NBC's "Today Show" and "The West Wing" television drama.
