"Maine Beach Yellow" is one of the works by New Haven artist Howard Fussiner now on view at the Joseph Slifka Center for Jewish Life at Yale.

Show features artist's colorful
depictions of 'Northern Shores'

"Northern Shores," an exhibition of recent paintings by New Haven artist Howard Fussiner, is on view through Sept. 5 in the Allan and Leah Rabinowitz Gallery of the Joseph Slifka Center for Jewish Life at Yale.

Fussiner was a professor of art at Southern Connecticut State University from 1960 until his retirement in 1988. He has exhibited his artwork throughout Connecticut and New York City, and has been the featured artist in more than 75 solo exhibitions over the course of his career. Vivian Raynor of The New York Times said of the artist: "A painter whose reputation goes back to the Manhattan of the 60s ... Mr. Fussiner has covered a lot of ground in his career."

The current exhibition showcases Fussiner's depiction of the variations of light and color that can be found in the region's landscape amongst the patterns of stone, sand, plants and sea.

The Slifka Center is located at 80 Wall St. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday-Saturday.
