Initiative to develop new U.S.-India collaborations
Yale is among the top American universities that have signed a historic agreement to promote U.S.-India collaborations in higher education and research.
Indian President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam announced the establishment of the Indo-U.S. Inter-University Collaborative Initiative in Higher Education on Dec. 8 at the Presidential Palace in New Delhi.
This agreement brings together 20 leading American universities, Mata Amritanandamayi Center's Amrita University in India, the government of India, and three international corporations--Microsoft, Qualcomm and Cadence.
Also signing the agreement are Harvard, Purdue and Princeton universities; the Georgia Institute of Technology; the Universities of Massachusetts at Amherst, Washington, Texas at Austin, Illinois at Urbana Champaign, Wisconsin at Madison, North Dakota, Maryland and Michigan; and the University of California campuses at Los Angeles, Berkeley and Santa Cruz.
The program seeks to take advantage of the synergy between the United States and India, making it possible for faculty at U.S. universities to teach and guide research at hundreds of colleges and universities in India via Amrita's e-learning setup and India's exclusive educational satellite, "EDUSAT."
The program will include advanced technology areas such as engineering and computer science, information technology, materials science, bio- and nanotechnology, health sciences, management sciences, media and other areas. The program will also introduce U.S. faculty to potential research partnerships in India.
