Bockenstedt named director of professional development at medical school
Dr. Linda K. Bockenstedt, the Harold W. Jockers Associate Professor of Medicine, has been appointed as the School of Medicine's new director for professional development and equity effective Feb. 1.
This is a newly created position designed to advance the professional lives of the school's faculty. Bockenstedt will be responsible for creating proactive programs that will support the academic development of all faculty members and encourage the growth of a diverse faculty body at the school. While these new programs will support all faculty members, a special focus will be on the needs of women and underrepresented minorities.
Accordingly, Bockenstedt will collaborate with the Office for Faculty Affairs, the director of the Office for Women in Medicine, the assistant dean for multicultural affairs, the deputy dean for education, the Committee on the Status of Women in Medicine and the Women's Faculty Forum. She will continue to maintain her active clinical practice specializing in systemic lupus and other autoimmune diseases and to pursue her laboratory research in the pathogenesis of Lyme disease.
"Linda will bring her considerable energy and talents to bear on this most important task of recruiting and supporting the academic development of a diverse faculty," said Medical School Dean Dr. Robert J. Alpern. "We are fortunate to have someone with her background, expertise and commitment in this position."
