Slifka Center hosting Jewish Alumni Weekend
The Joseph Slifka Center for Jewish Life at Yale has invited alumni back for a special program of events Friday-Sunday, Feb. 24-26. The Jewish Alumni Weekend is designed to give participants a chance to -- in the words of the organizers -- "reconnect with the place you love, the food you love, the spirit you love," while offering them a chance to meet with current students, staff and faculty. During the weekend, an exhibition titled "Illuminations" will be on view through Feb. 26 in the center's Allan and Leah Rabinowitz Gallery. The exhibition, which features photographs celebrating the power of light, was designed by local artist Sharon Steuer. The exhibition is open to the public free of charge 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Slifka Center, 80 Wall St. Other highlights of the weekend will be: * A talk by James Silk of the Law School at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24. Silk is associate clinical professor of law, director of the Allard K. Lowenstein International Human Rights Clinic and executive director of the Orville H. Schell Jr. Center for International Human Rights. The event is free and open to the public. * A luncheon and panel discussion on the topic "What Makes a Good Life?" at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25. The panel will be composed of three alumni, three faculty and three students, and will be moderated by Rabbi James Ponet '68. The event is free and open to the public. * A bagel brunch 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26, in the Kosher Kitchen. * A panel on "Women in Public Service" at noon on Feb. 26. The panelists will be composed of faculty, alumni and students, and will be moderated by David Berg '71, a lector and clinician psychiatrist at Yale. The event is free and open to the public.
