Bruce Wexler, professor of psychiatry, will discuss his new book, "Brain and Culture: Neurobiology, Ideology and Social Change," at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, at Labyrinth Books, 290 York St. There is no admission fee and the pubic is invited. The Yale Philharmonia will perform in concert at Carnegie Hall at 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 30. Shinik Hahm, adjunct professor of music, will direct the orchestra in a performance of music by Aaron Jay Kernis, Dmitri Shostakovich and Jean Sibelius. Tickets are $20 to $55, and may be purchased at the box office, by phone at (212) 247-7800 or on the Carnegie Hall website at www.carnegiehall.org. Student tickets are $10 and will be available the day of the concert, in-person sales only.
Seth Green, a student at the Law School, will speak on "The United Nations: Post-Summit Outlook" at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 1. The talk, part of the "Great Decisions Discussion Program," will be held in the Program Room of the New Haven Free Public Library, 133 Elm St. Developed by the Foreign Policy Association, the program is the oldest and largest grass-roots world affairs education program of its kind in the country. The talk is co-sponsored by Programs in International Educational Resources and the New Haven Free Public Library.
The Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library has received a Katharine Kyes Leab and Daniel J. Leab American Exhibition Catalogue Award from the American Library Association. The Beinecke was cited in the brochure category for "J. M. Barrie and Peter Pan: A Children's Guide." Catalogues are judged on "originality, accuracy of detail, informational content, visual impact, contribution to scholarship and usefulness to the intended audience."
