A lesson in egg-drop engineering
Over 80 area middle-school students came to campus on April 11 for "Girls in Engineering," a program designed to introduce them to the excitement of scientific research.
The day included talks and demonstrations on topics ranging from lasers to neurosurgery to nanotechnology and more. One highlight of the day was a contest to see who could design a container that would prevent a raw egg from breaking after a two-story drop.
The eggs were dropped from the landing on the stairway in Becton plaza to the sunken area behind Dunham Laboratory.
