Ransom Wilson

Celebrated performer to teach
summer flute institute

Three public concerts will highlight the first Ransom Wilson Summer Flute Institute at Yale.

Wilson, who will direct the teaching and the coaching of the participants, is one of the world's most renowned flutists, as well as a noted conductor. He has been professor of flute at Yale since 1991.

As part of the summer program, the public is invited to attend three free concerts, all of which will be held at 8 p.m. in Sprague Memorial Hall, 470 College St.

The first, on Sunday, June 25, will feature Sergio Pallottelli, Wilson's assistant and an internationally acclaimed flutist who regularly performs as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States, Europe, South America and Australia. The program will feature works by Quantz, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Taffanel.

Wilson will be the featured performer at the second concert, on Thursday, June 29. He will play the music of Bach, Schumann, Doppler, La Montaine, Puts and Prokofiev.

The final event, on Saturday, July 1, will be a concert by the student participants in the summer institute. They will be accompanied by pianist Wing-Chong Kam, a native of Hong Kong and a 2006 graduate of the School of Music, who has been active throughout the world both as a soloist and chamber music player.
