Panel will discuss reconciliation
between Israelis, Palestinians

Peace and reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians is the theme of a panel on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 7 p.m. in the Law School's Levinson Auditorium, 127 Wall St.

This event is free, and the public is welcome.

Rabbi James Ponet, the director of the Joseph Slifka Center for Jewish Life at Yale, will introduce the event, which will include representatives from the Parents Group, a cooperative project of bereaved Palestinian and Israeli families. Ali Abbu Awwad, who lost a brother, and Robi Damelin, who lost a son, will speak about their journey from grief to advocacy for reconciliation.

Other speakers will be Yale College Dean Peter Salovey, the Chris Argyris Professor of Psychology and co-author of "The Remembered Self: Emotion and Memory in Personality"; and Miroslav Volf, the Henry B. Wright Professor of Theology and author of "Exclusion and Embrace: A Theological Exploration of Identity, Otherness and Reconciliation," a work of political theology based on his own experiences in the Balkan wars.

Bruce E. Wexler, professor of psychiatry and author of the groundbreaking interdisciplinary book, "Brain and Culture: Neurobiology, Ideology and Social Change," will moderate the panel.

Sponsors include the Divinity School, the Law School's Orville H. Schell Jr. Center for International Human Rights, the School of Medicine, the Center for the Study of Globalization, the Council on Middle East Studies at the MacMillan Center, Yale Religious Ministries and the Slifka Center.
