"Road Development in the Amazon" will be the focus of a forum being held on Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Luce Hall auditorium, 34 Hillhouse Ave.
The forum will take place 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and is open to the public free of charge. The event was organized by the Environment and Development Student Interest Group at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies.
This debate will present differing perspectives on the issue of road construction in the Amazon in order to more fully understand the complex issues involved and
the potential effects of these development projects.
Participants will discuss the costs and benefits of these projects and their associated social, economic, ecological, cultural and political implications.
The event will feature two panels -- one focusing on governance and the other on the issues related to landscape changes. The speakers will include representatives from the Corporacion Andina de Fomento, World Wildlife Fund, Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization, University of Florida, World Bank, the government of Brazil and Yale.
