John Langhauser '07 reacts to the
news of his record-breaking throw.

Shot-putter breaks 57-year-old record

A longstanding Yale athletic record fell on Feb. 3 during the Giegengack Invitational, held in Coxe Cage, home of Yale's indoor track teams.

John Langhauser '07, captain of the men's track team, toppled Jim Fuchs' 57-year-old school record in the shot-put in a dramatic fashion. The Yale senior, who had come within 15 centimeters of Fuchs' 17.57-meter mark two weeks earlier, broke the record when his final throw of the day -- and the last of his career in Yale's indoor facility -- went 17.88 meters.

After the measurement was announced, Langhauser leapt and pumped his fist. "I'm really glad to have gotten it, especially on my last throw in the cage," he said. "I wasn't sure it would happen here."

The Bulldogs' last remaining indoor meets are all on the road. For further information on Yale Athletics events, visit the Bulldog Bytes website at www.yalebulldogs.com.
