"Growing and Learning Together" will be the theme of the combined Communiversity Day celebration and International Cultural Festival, to be held 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, on Yale's Old Campus.
The public is invited to take part in the free program.
An annual tradition since the 1980s, Communiversity Day pays tribute to the strong ties that connect Yale and New Haven. First held in 2003, the International Cultural Festival celebrates the diverse communities that comprise the campus and the city. The former is organized by the Yale Delta Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega; the latter is coordinated by the International Students Organization and the Office of International Students and Scholars.
The day's highlights will include a Community Action Bazaar offering information about the services provided by over 100 campus and city organizations; musical and dance performances; cultural booths and workshops; an indoor planetarium; a Kid's Carnival with games and rides for youngsters; a photo exhibition showcasing the work of Yale graduate and professional students; a New Haven Reads Book Bank; and free food.
The program has received financial support from the Afro-American Cultural Center, Council of Masters, Graduate and Professional Student Senate, Whitney and Betty MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies at Yale, McDougal Center, Yale College Dean's Office, Office of International Students and Scholars, Yale Office of New Haven and State Affairs, President's Office, Secretary's Office and Undergraduate Organizations Funding Committee.
Old Campus is bordered by Chapel, High, Elm and College streets. In the event of rain, the program will take place in Payne Whitney Gymnasium, 70 Tower Pkwy. For more information, visit www.yale.edu/apo or www.yale.edu/icf.
