Symposium to showcase 'Next
Generation of Legal Scholarship'

The Graduate Programs at Yale Law School will hold its inaugural Works-in-Progress Symposium, titled "Next Generation Legal Scholarship," on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 10 and 11.

The Yale community is welcome to attend the symposium, which will take place at the Law School, 127 Wall St.

The symposium will feature papers by current Yale Law School graduate students, critiqued by law faculty from other schools who are themselves alumni of the Law School.

The symposium will showcase the scholarship of Yale Law School graduate students, "many of whom already hold faculty positions in their home countries," says symposium organizer Neysun Mahboubi, research fellow and tutor-in-law at the Law School. "At the same time, with the enthusiastic participation of so many alumni law professors, it will be a nice celebration of the Graduate Programs' distinctive commitment to fostering first-rate academic careers."

Papers to be presented on Tuesday are "Transnational Law and Organization," 4:15-6 p.m. in Rm. 121, and "Constitutional Orders and Fundamental Rights," 6:15-8 p.m. in Rm. 122.

Wednesday's presentations will be "Development and History of Legal Institutions," 10:15 a.m.-noon in Rm. 121, and "Investment Law and Dispute Settlement," 4:15-6 p.m. in Rm. 122.

A roundtable discussion on "Finding Your Voice as an Emerging Legal Scholar" will be held in the faculty lounge on Wednesday 12:15-2 p.m. Robert Hockett '06 J.S.D. of Cornell Law School will moderate the discussion, which is co-sponsored with the Program on Law Teaching. Lunch will be served. Those planning to attend should pre-register be sending e-mail to marie.battista@yale.edu.

The Graduate Programs at Yale Law School offers Master of Laws, Doctor of the Science of Law and Master of Studies in Law degrees. The Works-in-Progress Symposium is made possible through the support of the Oscar M. Ruebhausen Fund at Yale Law School.
