Ira Millstein is again named 'Corporate Lawyer of the Year'
Ira M. Millstein, senior associate dean for corporate governance at the Yale School of Management, has been named Corporate Governance Lawyer of the Year 2007 in the Who's Who Legal Awards.
This is the second consecutive year that Millstein, a senior partner at the international law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, has won the award.
The Who's Who Legal Awards recognize the leading individual and firm in 27 practice areas based on nominations from thousands of clients and private practice professionals. Millstein and the other winners were announced in the recently published book "The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers 2007."
Callum Campbell, editor of the volume, said it is an "outstanding achievement" to win the award for a second time. "Ira Millstein's continuing success demonstrates a consistent and unparalleled level of performance and service to clients. We have no hesitation in declaring him the leading lawyer for corporate governance expertise," said Campbell.
Millstein has counseled more than 50 boards on issues of corporate governance. He has served on or chaired the boards of numerous organizations. These include the Private Sector Advisory Group of the World Bank/Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Global Corporate Governance Forum, the New York State Commission on Public Authority Reform, and the OECD Business Sector Advisory Group, whose report led to the internationally recognized OECD Principles of Corporate Governance. In 2001 he received the first Award for Excellence in Corporate Governance given by the International Corporate Governance Network.
At the Yale School of Management, Millstein has provided the vision for the Millstein Center for Corporate Governance and Performance, which bears his name.
The center's mission is to serve as a leading global resource for testing, challenging and advancing the premise that corporations can and should serve society. It pursues this mission through a uniquely interdisciplinary approach, convening the top academics from fields such as economics, law and politics as well as experienced practitioners and leaders in business, investment and public policy.
