The Whitney Humanities Center will host a memorial service on Saturday, Oct. 14, honoring the life of Robert Wokler, senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science and the Directed Studies Program, who died of cancer on July 30 at the age of 63.
The service will take place at 5 p.m. in the center's auditorium, 53 Wall St. It will include remembrances from colleagues, students and friends, as well as a performance of chamber music.
Wokler was a renowned scholar of the Enlightenment who taught and published books and articles on authors ranging from Rousseau to Diderot and contemporary critics of the Enlightenment. He was known both for the breadth of his interests and his abilities as a teacher.
