There will be a memorial service on Friday, Nov. 10, in honor of Dr. Paul Beeson, an expert on infectious diseases who chaired the School of Medicine's Department of Internal Medicine 1952-1965.
The service will take place at 4 p.m. in the Medical Historical Library, Sterling Hall of Medicine, 333 Cedar St. A reception will follow in the Beaumont Room. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP to Michele Orosz at (203) 785-4672 or michele.orosz@yale.edu.
Beeson was on the forefront of research into the mechanisms of fever, infectious disease and immunology in the 1930s and 1940s. He was the first to identify the proteins in white blood cells known as cytokines, which are known to influence infection and cancer. He was also renowned for the standard he set as a caring physician and mentor to generations of students.
