Yale Library unveils blog and search tool
The Yale University Library has introduced two innovations this fall — a blog and a new online search capability.
The blog by University Library Alice Prochaska was launched on Aug. 21. It is
designed to capture and communicate news from across the Yale Library system.
The blog also profiles the work that the Yale Library and its staff are doing
to provide services and information resources to readers, both in-person and in
virtual space, while advertising events, lectures and exhibits within the
library.
Prochaska will be drawing on occasional guest contributors from other areas
within the Yale Library to highlight specific activities and initiatives. A
link to the blog is on the library’s website; readers can access it directly at www.library.yale.edu/mtblog/ulibrarian. Reader feedback and comments are welcome.
The Yale Library has also unveiled a new online search that combines seven
separate utilities into one powerful tool. By entering a search term, readers
will now see results from several Yale resources and the Internet in one
location grouped under a set of navigable tabs. Material from Orbis, the
library’s online catalog, Yale Library web pages and research guides, e-journals,
databases, Google Scholar, many of the library’s image collections, and the library employee directory are all incorporated.
The search is designed to connect readers with information quickly and easily,
and content has been provided from a wide variety of sources and departments
from across the Yale Library and the University. Readers can use the search on
the library’s website: www.library.yale.edu.
