Benefit event to feature noted neurosurgeon
Former Yale trustee Dr. Benjamin Carson will present a talk as part of “A
Community With No Boundaries: An Evening of Music and Inspiration,” a
program on Saturday, Nov. 17, to benefit the rebuilding of the Shelton Avenue
community center in New Haven’s Newhallville neighborhood.
Carson, a renowned neurosurgeon and author, will discuss “Service in
a Politically Correct World” as part of the program, which will be held
at 7 p.m. in Woolsey Hall, corner of College and Grove streets. The evening
will also feature performances by the Altino Brothers, the 100-voice Altino
Brothers Concert Chorale and The No Boundaries Symphony Orchestra. The program
will include Beethoven’s “Choral Fantasy,” Prokofiev’s
Concerto No. 3 (third movement) and two spirituals in contemporary settings.
Best known for performing the first successful separation of twins conjoined
at the head, Carson teaches and practices at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions
in Baltimore, Maryland. He is president and co-founder of the Carson Scholarship
Fund, which recognizes young people of all backgrounds for exceptional academic
and humanitarian achievements.
Nerva and Robenson Altino were born in Haiti and lived in dire poverty before
immigrating to the United States as children in 1983. They are now acclaimed
pianists whose genre-blending concerts have drawn large audiences across the
nation.
Tickets are $50, $100 and $200. The latter tickets include admission to a private
reception with Carson and the Altino brothers. To order tickets, call the Shubert
Theater box office at (203) 562-5666 or (888) 736-2663; or visit the website
at www.capa.com (click “News & Specials”).
The “Community With No Boundaries” program is presented by the
Corporation Partnership, a community outreach organization based at Mount Zion
SDA Church, Hamden.
