Reminder: Open enrollment
period ends Nov. 18
The University’s Open Enrollment period — a time when employees
can make changes to their medical and dental coverage — is now underway.
Employees have until Nov. 18 to make changes to their benefits. These changes
can be made online by visiting www.yale.edu/openenrollment. On this site, one
can view dependent data, make changes to health and dental insurance, and enroll
in flexible spending benefits for 2008. (Forms are also available online for
those who do not have access to the online employee self-service application.)
Once benefits are chosen, they will be in effect for the entire calendar year,
unless one experiences a qualifying life event. A description of qualifying life
events can also be found on the website.
Several new benefits have been added this year. They include a new hearing aid
discount program for all faculty and staff, which is being offered at no additional
charge. In addition, managerial & professional employees, faculty and postdoctoral
associates will be offered a new vision plan at a modest monthly cost, which
provides allowances and discounts on eyewear, including frames, lenses and contact
lenses. This will become available in January 2008.
For Yale Health Plan members, the premium for 19-25 year-old dependent students
has been eliminated.
Full descriptions of these changes and other medical and dental insurance options
can be found on the website.
All medical, dental and vision benefit elections must be made by Nov. 18. Flexible
spending elections can be made through Dec. 31.
