Several Yale Ob-Gyn presentations
are awarded honors at meeting

Research presented by faculty from the School of Medicine’s Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences (Yale Ob-Gyn) at the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine Scientific Meeting in Dallas, Texas gained national attention and won many awards. See related stories.)

The following is a summary of some of this work and a list of abstracts that won awards.

• Two Yale abstracts were awarded best concurrent session oral presentation. One was presented to Emily Oliver, Antonette Dulay, Guomao Zhao, Shichu Jing, Michael Cackovic, Catalin Buhimschi and Irina A. Buhimschi for their abstract titled “The Soluble form of the Receptor for Advanced Glycation End-Products, A Decoy for Rage, Is Increased in the Serum Level of Women with Severe Preeclampsia.”

The second award for best concurrent session oral presentation was presented to Edmund Funai, Christian Pettker, Stephen Thung, Cheryl Raab, Errol Norwitz, Catalin Buhimschi, Joshua Copel and Charles J. Lockwood for their abstract titled “Impact of a Comprehensive Strategy To Reduce Obstetric Adverse Events.”

• The Award for Best Poster Presentation went to Irina A. Buhimschi, Guomao Zhao, Edmund Funai, Ira Bernstein, George Saade and Catalin Buhimschi for their abstract titled “Proteomic Profiling of Urine in Preeclampsia Identifies Biomarker Sets Which Predict Outcome and Diff­erentiate This Condition from Other Hyper­tensive Disorders During Gestation.”

• Other abstracts of note included: “Screening for Gestational Diabetes: Is a 130 MG/DL or 140 MG/DL Glucose Challenge Test Threshold More Cost Effective?” by Stephen Thung, Christian Petteker and Edmund Funai; “Nucleated Red Blood Cells Are a Direct Response to Mediators of Inflammation in Newborns with Early Onset Neonatal Sepsis” by Antonette Dulay, Irina Buhimschi, Guomao Zhao, Guoyang Luo,

S. Adbel-Razeq, Michael Cackovic, Victor Rosenberg, Stephen Thung, Mert Ozan Bahtiyar, Vineet Bhandari and Catalin Buhimschi; and “Proteomic Profiling of Urine in Preeclampsia Identifies Biomarker Sets Which Predict Outcome and Differentiate This Condition from Other Hypertensive Disorders During Gestation” by Irina Buhimschi, Guomao Zhao, Edmund Funai, Ira Bernstein, George Saade and Catalin Buhimschi.
