Memorial service for Dr. Barry Goldberg
There will be service of remembrance on Thursday, Feb. 28, in celebration of
the life of the late Dr. Barry Goldberg, chief of athletic medicine at Yale
University Health Services (YUHS) and clinical professor of pediatrics at the
Yale School of Medicine.
The service will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the Joseph Slifka Center, 80 Wall
St. A reception will follow.
Goldberg was a pediatrician at YUHS from 1971 to 1978 and returned as chief of
athletic medicine from 1988 until his death on Sept. 25 at the age of 63. He
directed the medical services for Yale’s varsity sports program comprising
1,200 varsity athletes, as well as the club sport program. He also provided care
to scores of other athletes as a physician at YUHS. At the School of Medicine,
he implemented and instructed a sports medicine elective for pediatric residents
and provided sports medicine lectures for the pediatric training program. He
was also a member of or consultant to state, national and international athletic
organizations and an advisor to many school and recreational sports programs.
