Yale Cabaret benefit explores experience of American veterans returning from war

“The Homecoming Project” at the Yale Cabaret, an evening of theater and music exploring the experiences of American soldiers returning home from war, will help raise funds for the New Haven chapter of Disabled American Veterans.

The show continues the cabaret’s spring season of productions exploring the “American Experience.”

The evening will feature works created by a group of Yale School of Drama students who were asked to consider the consequences of coming home from a war that is 6,000 miles away to a society that is more tuned into “American Idol” than to the American military. The collection of short plays, monologues and music explore the gap between civilians and the returning soldiers, and the lasting effects of war on both individuals and the nation as a whole.

“The Homecoming Project” will be presented at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 22 and 23; doors open at 7 p.m. for beverage service only.

The event is free and open to the public, but there is a suggested donation of $10 ($5 for veterans, students and their families).

The Yale Cabaret is located at 217 Park St.
