During the course of his 2007 Tanner Lectures on Human Values at Yale, internationally
renowned architect Santiago Calatrava created an array of watercolor drawings
to illustrate his thinking and practice.
These drawings, together with excerpts from his remarks, will be on exhibit
at the Whitney Humanities Center, 53 Wall St., through June 16.
Calatrava’s designs include the Sondica Airport in Bilbao, Spain; the
expansion of the Milwaukee Art Museum; the James Joyce Bridge in Dublin, Ireland;
the Auditorio de Tenerife in Santa Cruz, Canary Islands; the Sundial Bridge
at Turtle Bay in Redding, California; and Turning Torso Tower in Malmo, Sweden.
He also designed a complex of buildings and plazas for Valencia’s City
of Arts and Sciences.
The architect has won numerous honors, including the 2000 Algur H. Meadows
Award for Excellence in the Arts and the 2005 Gold Medal from the American
Institute of Architects.
Exhibition hours are Monday and Wednesday, 3-5 p.m., or by appointment (call
(203) 432-0670 to schedule).
