Jazz concert celebrates the life of Stanton Wheeler
A jazz concert will take place on Sunday, April 13, in memory of Stanton Wheeler,
who died Dec. 7 at age 77.
The concert, hosted by Yale Law School Dean Harold Hongju Koh and Law School
faculty, will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Law School’s Levinson Auditorium,
127 Wall St. It will feature performances by the four jazz groups with which
Wheeler played: the Clamdiggers, the Reunion Jazz Ensemble, the King Street
Stompers and the Yale Jazz Ensemble. A reception will immediately follow the
concert in the Law School dining hall.
Wheeler was the Ford Foundation Professor Emeritus of Law and the Social Sciences
and Professorial Lecturer in Law at the time of his death. He was one of the
first non-lawyers to serve in a tenured position at the Law School. He was
noted for his research and teaching on the administration of criminal justice,
white-collar crime, the sociology of law, sports and the law, and music and
the law.
As the master of Morse College for six years, Wheeler was also known for sharing
his love of music, particularly jazz, with the Yale community. He played trumpet,
flugelhorn and cornet.
