Communing
Yale and New Haven community members came together to enjoy the springlike weather — and
each other’s company — on Communiversity Day, April 12.
Below: Yale senior Kevin Bock conjured up a "Soap Explosion" as part of a demonstration by Demos, an undergraduate organization devoted to making science fun for youngsters. The phenomenon occurs, Bock explains, when two liters of liquid nitrogen in a bucket are rapidly heated and expand to 1,500 liters of gaseous nitrogen. The plume is water vapor formed as the nitrogen cools the air and a few soap bubbles "add to the effect," he says.
