Yale gymnast competed in NCAA Regional

Alina Liao, a junior in Yale College, represented the University at the NCAA Regional gymnastics competition on April 12.

Laio tied her career high in both the all-around and on the beam, earning 38.675 and 9.825, respectively.

This was the third consecutive year that Liao competed in the event. She qualified by finishing as one of the region’s top five all-arounders whose team did not qualify. Her regional qualifying score was the second highest in the ECAC and seventh in the entire North East region.


Yale Jazz Ensemble to open for Mingus Big Band in NYC

The Yale Jazz Ensemble will open for the Mingus Big Band on Tuesday, April 22, Charles Mingus’s birthday, at 6:30 p.m. at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City, 1650 Broadway at 51st Street.

The ensemble will be joined by special guest Niko Higgins on saxophone. There is a $10 minimum with no cover charge. There is an additional charge to stay for the Mingus Big Band.

The Mingus Big Band performs the music of legendary composer and bassist Charles Mingus. The group tours widely in the United States and abroad, and has recorded nine albums, six of which have been nominated for Grammy Awards.

The Yale Jazz Ensemble is an 18-piece big band that performs a wide variety of music, from Yale’s Benny Goodman archive to the newest and most progressive jazz compositions.
