Jane Savage named director of best practices

School of Management alumna Jane Savage has been appointed as the University’s director of best practices.

Savage will be supporting the Best Practices Initiative and labor-management partnership between the University and its unions, Locals 34 and 35, Federation of University Employees, UNITE HERE.

Established in 2003, the mission of the Best Practices Initiative is to increase Yale’s overall productivity and quality, and to improve the workplace culture through the joint efforts of the University and the two locals. To date, joint projects have been undertaken in the Department of Athletics, Dining Services, the Yale Animal Resources Center, the Yale Center for British Art, the University Library, University Health Services, the Department of Internal Medicine, the Yale Medical Group and Facilities. Savage will support these units and the expansion of this initiative.

Savage has had consulting experience on a variety of organization development and labor-management efforts, including those at health care organizations involved in a partnership between the League of Voluntary Hospitals and Homes of New York and 1199 SEIU, as well as Fortune 500 apparel, chemical and auto supply manufacturers partnering with UNITE HERE.

Most recently, she was employed by the Cornell University ILR School Extension Division, where she assisted its leadership team in undertaking significant changes to its mission and services, managed the Organizational Change Group and co-founded and directed a training program that teaches skills in managing change to human resource professionals, consultants and managers.

Savage was a union member in her early work as a structural engineer. She has been a resident of New Haven for more than 15 years.
