Yale Physics Olympians build bridges beyond the problem sets.

Physics is team sport in Yale ‘Olympics’

The emphasis was on physics (as opposed to physical) prowess when teams of high school students gathered on campus for an “olympic” event on Oct. 20.

The Yale Physics Olympics, now in its 10th year, allows the students both to showcase their own knowledge of physics and to learn new principles by designing solutions to five experimental problems — such as building structures that can withstand heavy pressure — using only simple equipment and their imaginations. This year, over 50 teams of four students each from 40 schools in Connecticut, Rhode Island and New York participated.
