FIRST COED YALE COLLEGE CLASS TO MARK 25TH REUNION

Members of the history-making Class of 1971 -- the first Yale College class to accept women -- will celebrate their quarter-century reunion when they return to their alma mater Thursday-Sunday, May 30-June 2 for the first of two reunion weekends sponsored by the Association of Yale Alumni AYA.

Joining the groundbreaking coed class on campus will be members of the Classes of 1931, 1936, 1941, 1946, 1956, 1961, 1966, 1976 and 1981.

The AYA is sponsoring an array of activities in conjunction with the class reunions, including four lectures by Yale faculty members that are open to the University community.

Three of the lectures will be held on Friday, May 31: 9 a.m. -- "Music, Baseball and Dance in fin de siecle Cuba" by Roberto Gonzalez-Echevarria, Sterling Professor of Hispanic and Comparative Literature; 10 a.m. -- "Investing in Emerging Market Countries" by Sylvia Maxfield, associate professor of political science; and 11 a.m. -- "Magnetic Resonance Studies of Human Brain Function" by Robert P. Shulman, professor of molecular biophysics and biochemistry, and of chemistry. The final lecture in the series -- "Dieting and the Search for the Perfect Body: Where Biology and Culture Collide" by Kelly D. Brownell, director of the Yale Center for Eating and Weight Disorders and professor in the departments of psychology and epidemiology and public health -- will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 1. All four lectures will be held in the Law School's Levinson Auditorium, 127 Wall St.

A program of smaller classes and tours of the main libraries and collections has also been planned for returning alumni. On Friday and Saturday, the AYA will provide a special program of activities for alumni children ages 7-16.

The headquarters and reunion chairs of the reunion classes are: 1931 and older alumni -- Saybrook College, Franklin Farrel III and Frederic W. Loeser; 1936 -- Saybrook College, William S. Beinecke and Larry A. Hart; 1941 -- Jonathan Edwards College, Robert L. Arnstein and John N. Deming; 1946 -- Pierson College, Robert D. Dallen, Henry M. Lozier and Robert B. Roth; 1956 -- Davenport College, George B. Prince Jr.; 1961 -- Timothy Dwight College, Edward H. Cantor; 1966 -- Calhoun College, Cary A. Koplin and Lansing R. Palmer; 1971 -- Old Campus, Catherine Ross and Hugh Scott III; 1976 -- Branford College, Morris Effron and Joyce A. Levy; 1981 -- Berkeley College, H. Richter Elser.
