Summer Lecture Series

A series of lectures, sponsored by Yale Summer Programs, will be presented free of charge on Thursday evenings. Lectures will be held at 8 p.m. in Davies Auditorium, Becton Center, 15 Prospect St. The public is invited.

This year's schedule follows:

June 27 -- "A Sherlock Holmes Evening." Dr. Gerard N. Burrow, dean of the School of Medicine and a member of the Yale Sherlock Holmes Society, will present a talk, followed by a screening of the film "The Woman in Green." Yale faculty member Dr. David Musto will be master of ceremonies at the 15th annual event.

July 11 -- Wayne Koestenbaum, a poet and critic, will read from his work. He is the author of "Double Talk"; "The Queen's Throat," which was nominated for a National Book Critics' Circle Award; "Ode to Anna Moffo"; and "Rhapsodies of a Repeat Offender." His most recent work of nonfiction is "Jackie Under My Skin."

July 18 -- Christopher Tilghman, a novelist and short story writer, will read from his work. His stories have appeared in The New Yorker and other publications, and in "The Best American Short Stories" and other anthologies. His first novel, "Mason's Retreat," was published this spring by Random House, and some of his stories are collected in a volume called "In a Father's Place."

July 25 -- William Kennedy, author of six novels in the Albany Cycle, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning "Ironweed" and most recently, "The Flaming Corsage." He is also author of the play "Grandview," which had its premiere last spring. Mr. Kennedy will speak on the subject of the novelist as playwright.
