NOMINATIONS SOUGHT FOR ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES FELLOW

The Yale Institute for Biospheric Studies YIBS seeks nominations from Yale faculty members working in the environmental sciences for the first Gaylord Donnelley Environmental Fellowship. The $35,000-a-year, two-year fellowship will be awarded to a scholar who has received a Ph.D. degree within the last three years or who is about to receive a Ph.D. However, Yale Ph.D. graduates are ineligible, as are scholars already in residence at Yale.

The Donnelly Fellow will conduct research in biodiversity in collaboration with a Yale faculty member. The joint project also may combine biodiversity with public policy and conservation. The sponsoring faculty member will provide space and research funds beyond a $2,000 contingency fund awarded to the fellow. Nominations in the form of a letter outlining the candidate's qualifications must be submitted by Friday, Dec. 6. Nominations are limited to one per faculty member

Nominees should submit a two-page research proposal by Jan. 31 along with a curriculum vitae, one manuscript or reprint of published work, and three letters of recommendation. The award will be announced April 1, with the appointment to begin between July and September. Nomination letters and nominee applications should be sent to The Gaylord Donnelley Environmental Fellowship, Yale Institute for Biospheric Studies, Osborn Memorial Laboratories, P.O. Box 208104, New Haven, CT, 06520-8104.

The award is made possible through the generosity of the family of Gaylord Donnelley, Yale Class of 1931, and the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation of Chicago. Mr. Donnelley, a noted Chicago philanthropist who died in 1992, chaired R.R. Donnelley & Sons Inc., the largest commercial printing
