Play reading features comedy about the 'human need for belief'

The School of Drama-Yale Repertory Theatre's new play reading series, "Yale Playwrights at the Rep: Plays by the Graduating Class," continues on Monday, Dec. 9 with "Time Goes Crawling By," a comedy by third-year graduate student Kenneth Heaton.

The second of six readings scheduled throughout the year, Mr. Heaton's play will be read for one night only at 7 p.m. in the lounge of the Yale Repertory Theatre, 1120 Chapel St., corner of York.

The drama school student gives the following description of his play: "Forty years after his death, a country music star shows up for a gig at a rundown juke joint in east Texas, restoring faith and hope to the bar's complacent regulars. With an original country music score, 'Time Goes Crawling By' is a play that explores the human need for belief and evokes a heartland desperately searching for its heart."

The playwrights series opened on Nov. 9 with a reading of E. Duffy Adams' "The Reckless Ruthless Brutal Charge of It: a Comi- Threnody" by a cast that included Tony Award-winner Boyd Gaines, as well as veteran actors Michael Booth, Bill Camp, Jennifer Dundas, Patricia Kilgarriff, Kathleen McNenny, Michael Stuhlbarg and Jim True. Actors participating in the Dec. 9 reading will be announced several days prior to the performance.

The readings are free and open to the public; however, reservations are required due to space limitations. To make a reservation, call 432-1570.
