Silent auction of artworks to benefit AIDS organizations

Faculty and students at the School of Art are once again inviting the Yale community to participate in A Day Without Art by taking a few moments of silence and offering their support to the local programs that help those with HIV infection.

Now an annual tradition nationwide, A Day Without Art honors the achievement and lives of artists who have died from AIDS. It also serves to promote action and knowledge about how HIV infection is spread, the care of those with the disease and paths to a possible cure.

The fifth annual Silent Auction in observance of A Day Without Art will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the Yale University Art Gallery, corner of York and Chapel streets.

The items up for bid will be works on paper, including photographs and books, that have been donated by faculty and students at the School of Art and that range in value from $15 to $1,000. The artwork will be on view beginning at 2 p.m.; bidding will begin at 5 p.m. Successful bidders can pick up their works 6:30-7 p.m.

Also on sale that day wil be special commemorative caps, t-shirts and buttons. All proceeds from the sale will be donated to AIDS service organizations in New Haven.
