Exhibit features recent acquisitions of photos, prints and drawings

During the past three years, numerous works on papers ranging from the early 17th century to the present have been acquired either through gifts or through purchases by the Yale University Art Gallery's department of prints, drawings and photographs. The most significant of these works are now on view on the gallery's fourth floor in the exhibit "Paper Support: Recent Acquisitions of Prints, Drawings and Photographs," which will continue through March 16.

"The growth of University art collections has a life of its own," says Richard S. Field, curator of prints, drawings and photographs at the gallery. "It is determined by the variety of alumni interests -- and subsequent gifts -- and only moderately shaped, filled in and strengthened by curatorial purchases."

The approximately 70 works on view in "Paper Support" demonstrate the wide range of tastes and interests that characterize Yale's collection of works on paper, says Mr. Field.
