English Language Institute

The University's English Language Institute offers the following courses for the spring term beginning the week of Jan. 27. The classes continue for 10 weeks and end in mid-April. Students should enroll during the week of Jan. 20 at the English Language Institute office, Suite 101, 246 Church St., New Haven.

The courses are for graduate and professional students whose academic or professional goals require an advanced level of English language proficiency. The courses are designed for students with specific academic goals of improving oral presentation skills, expository writing skills and strategies for academic argument, and American English pronunciation. Information on the courses follows:

Advanced Writing Workshop -- Kirk Hughes, instructor. The class meets Monday and Wednesday, 12:15-1:45 p.m. Lewis Seminar Room, Calhoun College, 189 Elm St.

Introductory Pronunciation Workshop -- William Vance, instructor. The lecture takes place 7-9 p.m. on Monday; a one-hour practicum, time to be announced, meets on Wednesday. Rm. B1, Language Lab, 111 Grove St.

Advanced Pronunciation Workshop -- William Vance, instructor. The lecture will be held 3-5 p.m. on Wednesday; individual tutorials at times to be arranged. Rm. CO 31, Becton Center, 15 Prospect St.

Pronunciation Mini-Course -- William Vance, instructor. Lectures will be held 10 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1; individual tutorials at times to be arranged. Rm. 113, William Harkness Hall WLH, 100 Wall St.

Oral Communication-Integrated Skills Workshop -- Stephanie Hart, instructor. Meets Monday and Wednesday, 4-5:30 p.m. in Rm. 4, WLH.

Integrated Skills -- Alice Hadler, instructor. Classes are held Monday and Wednesday. Section One meets 9-10:30 a.m.; Section Two meets 10:30-noon. Schroeder Study, Calhoun College.

Tutorials in Writing -- Deborah Tenney, instructor. Call the office for information on individual tutorials in writing. Hours and meeting place to be arranged.

International Teaching Assistants' Course -- Call the office for information.
