Play reading of new romantic comedy to be held Feb. 3

The looming spectre of matrimony haunts two young adults in "Post-Coitals, Pre-Nuptials," a new work by School of Drama student Alexander Woo that will be read on Monday, Feb. 3, as part of the series "Yale Playwrights at the Rep: Plays by the Graduating Class."

In the romantic comedy, Daniel and Marie, two friends from childhood, generate enormous phone bills as they call each other from opposite coasts to discuss their impending marriages. As they engage in a series of affairs with individuals ranging from Chinese delivery people to Catholic priests, the two struggle with their concerns about the stereotypical identities that wedlock might bring.

Sponsored by the drama school and the Yale Repertory Theatre, the series will feature six readings throughout the year by third-year students in Yale's playwriting program.

Mr. Woo's play is the third work in the series. It will be read at 7 p.m. in the Experimental Theatre in the basement of the University Theatre, 222 York St. Readings are free and open to the public; however, reservations are required due to space limitations. To make a reservation, call 432-2570.

The names of the actors who will read "Post-Coitals, Pre- Nuptials" on Feb. 3 will be announced several days prior to the performance. Earlier play readings have featured award-winning actors Boyd Gaines, Jennifer Dundas and Patricia Kilgarriff.
