Yale Cabaret
Now in its 27th year, the Yale Cabaret describes itself as the "personal showcase of theater's brightest young professionals." Operated entirely by School of Drama students, the Cabaret performs 20 shows a year from September through May in an intimate, club- like setting. The Cabaret kitchen offers a full selection of gourmet salads, sandwiches, weekly specials, beer, wine and a variety of other beverages. Located at 217 Park St., the Cabaret performs two shows nightly, Thursday- Saturday. Yale Dramat Children's Theater Company
The Yale Dramat Children's Theater Company offers on-campus shows for children and adults alike, and performs shows and runs workshops at local schools and community centers. Yale Dramatic Association
The Yale Dramatic Association, an undergraduate and extracurricular group, produces eight shows per year. The Dramat operates in the University Theatre, 222 York St., presenting two professionally directed productions on its mainstage, five student- directed productions and a Commencement show. The Dramat provides opportunities for actors, directors, designers, technicians, administrators and playwrights to work in a fully equipped theater facility. Yale Repertory Theatre
The Yale Repertory Theatre, corner of Chapel and York streets, is the professional affiliate of the School of Drama and is under the artistic direction of Stan Wojewodski Jr., dean of the drama school. Its 30th season, from October 1996 to May 1997, will feature six plays that celebrate "the vitality, range and ambition of American theater workers," according to Dean Wojewodski.
The plays in next year's season are: "First Lady," a satire by Katharine Dayton and George S. Kaufman about two women's fight for the White House, Oct. 10-Nov. 2; David Mamet's contemporary drama "The Cryptogram," about a young boy whose sheltered world is suddenly revealed as a place rife with danger, Nov. 14-Dec. 7; the world premiere of a new musical, "Triumph," based on Pierre Marivaux's "Triumph of Love," about a princess who enters the fortress of reason, bringing with her the "unreasonable" emotion of love, Jan. 16-Feb. 8; Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer Prize-winning play "The Skin of Our Teeth," a comedy about a family of survivors, which will feature the graduating acting class and celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Wilder, Feb. 20-March 15; and the world premiere of "The Adventures of Amy Block" by School of Drama graduate Julie McKee, which examines the unpredictable life of a young woman magnetized by the art of scam, March 27-April 19. The sixth play, May 1-24 will be announced at a later date.
The Yale Rep offers a variety of memberships this season, including a 10-play subscription for all six Yale Rep offerings plus four School of Drama productions, see above; a six-play Yale Rep subscription; a four-play FlexPass allowing members to choose four of the Yale Rep plays; and a Student Pass offering all six plays of the Rep's season. It also sponsors a Singles Series and a Rainbow Series for Gays, Lesbians and Friends.
