Events celebrate international makeup of SOM student body

Students at the School of Management SOM are currently in the midst of a round-the-world trip of sorts as they mark the celebration of International Month at the school.

The annual festivities are sponsored by the SOM's International Management Student Interest Group as a way of fostering global understanding of culture and business. Currently, more than one- third of all SOM students are from foreign countries.

At the International Month presentations, the SOM students share the foods and beverages of their native lands. The presentations also include screenings of acclaimed movies, musical performances and native costumes; each features a question-and- answer session, and is open free to the public.

"I've been waiting for this," says SOM student May Chen, "to celebrate the school's extraordinary international student composition, which is key to our classroom discussions and team projects centered around the global economy."

International Month began on Feb. 5, and thus far, there have been presentations on England, Australia and New Zealand. The remaining presentations will be: Feb. 12 -- Denmark, France, Austria and Italy; Feb. 13 -- Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong; Feb. 19 -- China, Korea and Singapore; March 3 -- Nigeria, South Africa and greater Africa; March 4 -- Estonia, Hungary and Poland; and March 5 -- Russia, Ukraine and Bulgaria.

For a calendar of activities detailing these free presentations, as well as other events that are open to the public, call Eduardo Fukui at 203-773-9614.
