A view from the bench: Alumnus discusses judiciary

Stephen Reinhardt LAW '54, a federal judge on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, will visit Yale Wednesday, April 16, to deliver the Adlai Stevenson Lecture at Morse College. Judge Reinhardt will speak on the topic "A Liberal Judge Views the Federal Judiciary: Past, Present and Future," at 8 p.m. in the dining hall of Morse College, 302-304 York St. Admission to the lecture is free.

One of the last appointees of President Jimmy Carter, Judge Reinhardt is considered an "outspoken opponent" of the death penalty and the author of the state of Washington's "right-to-die" case now before the United States Supreme Court.

He will spend three days at Morse College meeting with students and fellows, according to Master Stanton Wheeler. His wife, Ramona Ripston, the executive director of the Los Angeles branch of the American Civil Liberties Union, will address students at the Law School as the guest of the Knight Journalism Fellows.
