NOTED AUTHOR/TALK SHOW HOST TO DISCUSS PARENTING

Sylvia B. Rimm, a noted author on parenting and host of the public radio program "Family Talk with Sylvia Rimm," will take part in an informal lunchtime talk on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The discussion will be held noon- 1 p.m. in Rm. 208 of the Boyer Center for Molecular Medicine, 295 Congress Ave. Members of the public are invited to bring lunch to the free event.

Ms. Rimm is director of the Family Achievement Clinic and clinical professor of psychiatry and pediatrics at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. She is author of the books "Why Bright Kids Get Poor Grades -- And What You Can Do About It," "Keys to Parenting the Gifted Child," "How to Parent So Children Will Learn" and "Smart Parenting."

Ms. Rimm is launching an in-depth study of the family and educational influences of successful women in career fields where women of earlier generations were rarely found, including medicine and science. She will discuss this study and her other research on parenting and educational techniques.

Ms. Rimm's visit is being sponsored by the Office of Academic Medicine and the Office for Women in Medicine.
